Michael Riley Design reflects a passion for strong design details and eye-catching but playable synthetic greens. Drawn to the craft early on by the role of contours and shapes, Mike Riley pulls from his experience working with Nicklaus Design and Robert Cupp. Understanding the value of thirty-five years of professional golf course design, Southwest Greens formalized a relationship to integrate natural course attributes with modern synthetic turf playability.

After receiving a degree in Horticulture from Clemson University and brief time on the pro golf circuit, Mike was offered an amazing offer to work for Jack Nicklaus’ design company. As both a site coordinator and a design associate, he was privileged to be involved with Nicklaus golf courses in Tucson, California, Colorado, Hawaii, and Japan. He literally learned the craft of course design and construction from the ground up with the master himself. One of the courses he worked on, the Kauai Lagoons’ Kiele course, was named Best New Resort Course by Golf Digest magazine in 1989.
