With synthetic turf becoming increasingly popular, we have recently had huge amount of pet-specific questions from those who have four-legged loved ones. Take a look at some of the most frequent questions we get about artificial turf for dogs in Asheville.
IS IT SAFE FOR DOGS?
Yes! Synthetic grass is harmless to pets — cats and dogs alike. Pet turf is developed to be much more durable than both regular grass and traditional artificial grass. You won’t need harsh pesticides or fertilizers, either, so you won’t be exposed to those chemicals like you would with organic turf. Your pooch can be allergic to grass pollen, so when you make the shift to artificial, you might even see Fido experience fewer allergies, too.
HOW DO YOU CLEAN UP PET WASTE?
Canine can use the grass as their bathroom like they instinctively know how to do — the real difference here is the cleaning process is easy for you. It is much simpler to remove pet waste off synthetic turf, and the turf won’t lose color or become stained from pet urine or feces. Southwest Greens pet turf is crafted with a sophisticated backing system under its surface that helps urine and other liquids to drain more effectively than natural grass. For solid waste, simply let it dry a little before disposal for best results. If you’re left with marks, a quick splash with the hose will remove any residual waste.
WILL IT SMELL BAD FROM DOG URINE?
Synthetic grass has no scent, so if any odors do occur, it’s often caused by dog urine specifically. Many pets favor to use a specific area of the backyard to do their business, so occassionally, you can get a little more of a build-up of odor. Southwest Greens turf system is antimicrobial, which tends to decrease the smell, but there are steps you can take to ensure no smells linger. We advise you use a solution of even parts water and vinegar to spray Fido’s favorite bathroom area. Let it dry to destroy any dawdling odor.

HOW MUCH DOES ARTIFICIAL TURF COST?
This will totally depend on your project specification, so it’s challenging to give an exact estimate. The following factors that might affect the price are:
- Size/dimensions of the area being converted from regular grass to synthetic
- Inticracy of design and layout you want to setup
- Kind of artificial grass products you're looking to get
